Dentures

Dentures are made over several visits. Most commonly they require four visits consisting of:

• Impressions - First stage impressions of your upper and lower jaw to create a model for the laboratory to make wax bite blocks and a more accurate impression tray.

• Bite – Wax block(s) are used measure your bite so the laboratory technician knows what size to make the teeth and how the teeth will come together. Your dentist will take various measurements at this stage. If a second more accurate impression of your gums and palate is needed, it will be taken at this visit. (Occasionally this second impression can be booked in before the bite stage).  

• Try – This stage is a wax mock-up of your new denture. Acrylic teeth are set into wax so you can see if you are happy with the size, shape and colour of the teeth before the denture is made. Your dentist will make any necessary adjustments and confirm you are happy to proceed. You may need to return for a retry before the final fitting.

• Fit – You will be fitted with your new dentures. Your dentist will check your new teeth fit as expected. Minor adjustments may need to be made at this appointment. You will also be given instruction on how to fit and remove your dentures if necessary, and how to care for them.
